Here we are!!!! We are at Horizon Elementary in Utah. Ellen and I were working with the staff unlocking standards. We also worked on creating content organizers to determine learning targets. It was a day of discovery, fun, and laughs.

Good Morning Friends!
I’m at a hotel in Addison, Texas at the moment – headed to a high school in Fort Worth to do “Drop-Ins” all day.
I wanted to tell you, about a couple days ago at Red Mountain Elementary… What a great learning day! Our work focused on Depth of Knowledge and Student Engagement (Tasking) for K – 2 grade teachers. We started the day with Angie (AMAZING instructional coach) teaching a “textbook” lesson. Teachers were the students. They were bored, unengaged – kinda like students when a teacher teaches a “textbook” lesson. Then Angie taught the same lesson – but very well planned with manipulative, active student engagement, DOK 3 questioning that required partner work. She also used what I call an Anecdotal Checklist. As she was doing proximity, she was checking students on the skills of “subtracting all” & “subtracting zero” and noting common misconceptions.
This Afternoon was spent lesson planning – starting with analyzing an essential standard and determining the numerous learning targets. Here are some picks of the groups.
